AT THE CORE OF THE PROJECT: WORKS AT HARAM GATE HAVE FINALLY STARTED.
August 4, 2016
From mid-July, after a long preparatory phase, works have finally started at Haram Gate, one of the most important monumental gates to access the Walled city. In addition to the static consolidation and restoration of the Haram Gate, the layout of the square will also be remodeled. What’s more, sanitation services will be improved, to meet the needs of citizens and tourists, and a new pavilion will house solar panels to light the square and its surroundings.
We are now entering the heart of the second phase of the project, started in 2011 and funded through the Debt Swap Agreement between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The actions will involve other important areas and symbols of the city: the Musafir Khana, an historical building to be given back to its antique splendors, as well as the central and very popular Sarafa Bazaar.
